Program Description |
One of two R15 awards offered by NIDCR, the Academic Research Enhancement Award for Undergraduate-Focused Institutions (AREA) provides qualified scientists support for meritorious small-scale research projects at undergraduate-focused institutions that do not receive substantial funding from the NIH. It is anticipated that investigators supported under the AREA program will benefit from the opportunity to conduct independent research; that the grantee institution will benefit from a research environment strengthened through AREA grants; and that students at recipient institutions will benefit from exposure to and participation in scientific research in the biomedical sciences so that they can informatively consider careers in biomedical research.
