Position Description
The Office of Science Policy and Analysis (OSPA) at the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) seeks a Supervisory Health Science Policy Analyst (GS 14) Branch Chief to lead policy, epidemiology, and dental public health activities.
OSPA aims to bridge the gap between scientific evidence and policy (reform) to improve oral health for all. OSPA works to inform policy and strategic planning, lead analysis and reporting activities, coordinate stakeholder engagement and legislative efforts, and conduct public health research and training to advance NIDCR’s mission. The individual taking on this position will oversee the branch that provides subject matter expertise and research services in support of OSPA, NIDCR, and institute leadership. Areas of expertise include dental, oral, and craniofacial epidemiology; public health; and engagement across NIH and with other federal agencies. The branch also provides supervision, research expertise, and statistical support to the Dental Public Health Research Fellowship program.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Branch Chief will primarily support policy, epidemiology, and dental public health activities, including:
- Leading the communications and coordination efforts for large-scale dental, oral, craniofacial, or public health scientific programs.
- Analyzing large data sets, performing statistical analyses, and evaluating scientific policy issues.
- Translating research to implement processes and policies for dental, oral, craniofacial, or public health scientific program operations.
- Monitoring scientific research advances and trends in dental, oral, craniofacial, or public health sciences to identify opportunities for improvements.
- Conducting public health research and training, including preparing reports and manuscripts for publication.
- Coordinating with dental and oral public health leaders across federal agencies and external organizations.
- Supervising staff (such as public health analysts, statisticians, and epidemiologists) and mentoring the residents in the Dental Public Health Fellowship program.
Qualifications
OSPA is strategically placed within NIDCR’s Office of the Director and staff regularly interact with senior leaders. OSPA has a dynamic, supportive, and inclusive culture.
