Basic Research in Behavioral, Social, & Biopsychosocial Processes Program

This program’s portfolio includes research to increase our collective knowledge on the nature of basic social, behavioral, psychosocial, and/or biopsychosocial mechanisms and processes. Projects should be designed to deepen our understanding of how and why humans initiate, adopt, maintain, and sustain behaviors that impede or promote optimal health and well-being within NIDCR’s research mission. Both animal model and human subject research projects are welcome, as are projects that leverage existing data for novel and/or translational purposes. Basic experimental research with humans can be conducted within NIDCR’s mission to improve oral public health for all in dental, oral, and craniofacial health, as well as in their comorbid or related medical indices, settings, and disease/health contexts related to NIDCR’s mission. Though it is possible to conduct basic research within an ongoing intervention study, any proposed project that meets the requirements of NIH’s Definition of a Clinical Trial may be more appropriate for BSSRB’s Assessment, Technology, and Treatment Outcomes Program.
