Biographical Sketch
Dr. Chantel Fuqua is a Program Officer in the Research Training and Career Development Branch, where she manages fellowships, career development awards, institutional training awards, and the Loan Repayment Program. Previously, she was a Program Director in the Center to Reduce Cancer Health Disparities at the National Cancer Institute, where she managed workforce and training programs. She also served as a program official for the trans-NIH Faculty Institutional Recruitment for Sustainable Transformation (FIRST) program.
In addition, Dr. Fuqua previously served as an American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Science & Technology Policy Fellow at the National Science Foundation’s Directorate for STEM Education. Dr. Fuqua came to NIH from academia, teaching biology, biochemistry, and chemistry at various types of higher education institutions, most recently at the University of Maryland Global Campus. Her research interests include cytokine signaling and signal transduction pathways in cells. Dr. Fuqua received her B.S. in Chemistry from Saint Louis University, and her Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences from Meharry Medical College.
