Biographical Sketch
Dr. Hongen Yin is Director of the HIV/AIDS & Oral Health Research Program at the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR). She oversees a clinical, translational, and basic research portfolio to advance understanding of mechanisms of HIV infection and improve dental, oral and craniofacial health in people living with HIV/AIDS. In addition, Dr. Yin serves as the NIDCR representative on several trans-NIH HIV/AIDS committees.
Prior to joining Center of Clinical Research, Division of Extramural Research, Dr. Yin served as a staff scientist in NIDCR Intramural Division, where her research has primarily focused on clinical and translational studies on Sjögren’s Syndrome. She has also served as an Associated Investigator for the clinical trial testing gene therapy to treat irradiation-induced salivary gland hypofunction in head and neck cancer patients. Most recently, she has been leading a study to develop therapeutics against COVID-19. Dr. Yin is a physician scientist who initially received her M.D. & Ph.D. training in Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology at Peking Union Medical College Hospital in China. She completed her Postdoctoral Fellow at the National Eye Institute and NIDCR, where she also earned her Master of Health Science in Clinical Research from Duke University.
