Biographical Sketch

John Prue is the Technology Officer in the Office of the Director for the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) and brings over 40 years of professional technology experience to this role. Previously, Mr. Prue served as NIDCR's Chief Information Officer (CIO), and Office of Information Technology Director providing information technology leadership and management across all NIDCR mission domains. Mr. Prue's broader career has been focused on stewardship, architecture, integration, use, and analysis of data, and he has emerged as a leader in the growing data science community at NIH. As NIDCR's Technology Officer, Mr. Prue will build on his past work in data and technology to advance and refine the dental, oral, and craniofacial data science ecosystem, and facilitate the adoption and creation of data science focused technologies, infrastructure, and standards needed to advance NIDCR science and modernize NIDCR operations.

Mr. Prue holds a Master of Science in Information Systems from the University of Maryland, University College, and first came to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in 1996 where he was a member of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Information Technology Office. Since then, Mr. Prue has left NIH for periods of time, working for Fortune 500 companies, launching two successful IT consulting companies, and spending time supporting multiple federal departments. However, Mr. Prue always considered NIH his true home, and in 2007 assumed the role of NIDCR Deputy CIO. He was named CIO in 2008.
