Biographical Sketch
As Chief of the Science Policy and Planning Branch (SPPB), Wendy Knosp is responsible for managing activities in the areas of policy, reporting, and legislative activities for the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR). The SPPB implements scientific coding for the institute’s intramural and extramural research portfolio; leads all legislative activities; facilitates interactions with government agencies and other interested parties related to science policy and legislative affairs; reviews and provides input on federal science policies; designs and conducts analyses to help inform decision-making; and reports on policy, program, and scientific activities and outcomes.
Dr. Knosp earned her Ph.D. in molecular and medical genetics from Oregon Health & Science University and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco in the area of growth factor signaling and organogenesis. She first came to NIH as a senior postdoctoral fellow in the NIDCR intramural research program, and then served as a Health Science Policy Analyst and team lead for the Office of Science Policy and Analysis. Dr. Knosp also led strategic planning, communication, and analysis activities for a suite of Common Fund Programs in the NIH Office of Strategic Coordination, including Stimulating Peripheral Activity to Relieve Conditions (SPARC), Bridge to Artificial Intelligence (Bridge2AI), and the Common Fund Data Ecosystem (CFDE).
